Seeing a Chiropractor: Finding Ways to Keep Your Pain Away

Back Hurts Constantly? How A Chiropractor Can Help You

by Carlos Butler

If your back hurts constantly, this can be frustrating and hard to deal with. It makes it hard to sleep and walking around all day in pain can wear you out quick. One option you have to feel better is to see a chiropractor. Below are ways this professional can help ease your pain.

Your First Visit to the Chiropractor

When you first arrive at the appointment to see your chiropractor, you will be asked many questions. For example, they will want to know about any past injuries to your back and if you are currently having any health problems. The chiropractor will need to know all medications that you are currently taking, how much exercise you get, how much stress you feel on a regular basis, your diet, and how you sleep. You will also need to tell the chiropractor if you are a smoker, use drugs, or drink alcohol.

Once the chiropractor gets all this information, they will perform a physical examination on you to help them determine how bad your back hurts. First, they will determine how well your spine can move. If needed, the chiropractor will order x-rays to determine if there is anything that may be making your back pain worse.

Back Pain Treatment

On your next visit, the chiropractor will start treatment for you. You will lie on a table and the chiropractor will manipulate your spine. Spinal manipulator relieves pressure on the joints in your back, improves blood flow to help with pain, and reduces inflammation you may have in your back.

In many cases, the chiropractor will perform spinal manipulation with their hands. They do this by first moving a joint in your spine and then giving it a thrust. This is also called a spinal adjustment. Along with spinal manipulation, the chiropractor may also use massage therapy. Depending on the type of back problem you are having, the chiropractor may also suggest that you see a physical therapist to help.

When the spinal manipulation is over and you sit up on the table, you may feel a little pain for a few minutes. After this, however, your back should feel at least a little better after one treatment, and then will continue getting better after each subsequent treatment.

Talk to the chiropractor about this information and they can go into many more details to help you understand how everything will work during your visits.
